Slow economic recovery
Romania, which will see a slow economic recovery in 2011, after a decline of over 2% in 2010, will face tough austerity measures and opposition may produce instability to these measures, estimates Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), according to Mediafax
Forecast for the first quarter
The opinions expressed in January 2011 by the companies’ managers, for the period January - March 2011, a relative stability in manufacturing activity, a moderate drop in service sector and a drop in construction and retail trade, compared to the previous three months, informs the National Institute of Statistics.
Romania – the production of crude steel
The 2010 year has led to the recovery of crude steel production to Romania which increased by 41.3% compared to 2009, up to 3.9 million tonnes. Also, exports of steel products increased by 48% and imports by 27%.
Mechel increases production and export
Steel companies from Romania controlled by the Mechel Russian group occurred in 2010 with 38% more crude steel and 46% more full finished hot rolled, compared with 2009.
Production increased, in the conditions of the domestic market stagnation, allowed export share increased in the portfolio of orders, providing the growth of new market segment
ArcelorMittal in Ukraine
In 2010,at the performance of Ukraine\\\'s steel industry, have helped the companies: ArcelorMittal Kriviy Rih, Metinvest - Azovstal plant and Ilyich plants, that increased the crude steel production by 21.7%, 22.8% and 32% respectively, compared with the previous year. To specify that total crude steel production in Ukraine in 2010 was 32.7 million tons (+10%), compared with an increase of 15% of global production.
The divisation of ArcelorMittal
Shareholders of the largest world\\\'s steel producer, ArcelorMittal, recently announced the company\\\'s separation by stainless steel division, APERAM (informs “Financiarul” newspaper).
They will receive one share at the division of stainless steel for every 20 ArcelorMittal shares they hold . APERAM contributes with 5% to the profit recorded by ArcelorMittal.
