World steel consumption forecast
Worldsteel forecasts regarding the evolution of world apparent consumption of steel products, looks like it will grow with 5.9% (to 1,359 million tons) in 2011, after an increasing with 13.2% in 2010 comparing with previous year. For 2012, same forecasts predict an increase with 6.0%, setting a new record for consumption at 1,441 million tons of steel products.

New investments at Galati
ArcelorMittal Galati Management recently announced that it would start an investment program in the amount of € 25 million for modernization of heavy plate mill no. 2.
ArcelorMittal Group, the largest steelmaker in the world, produce in Galati about 40% of the total thick steel plate. The new equipment will permit the achievement of new types of thick sheet and entering the company on new markets.
The ArcelorMittal Group has in ongoing , at Galati, an investment of € 53 million for modernization of the furnace no. 5, which entered into capital repair at the beginning of 2010.
Alro Slatina - buy green certificates
The aluminum producer Alro Slatina, controlled by Vimetco Group with Russian shareholders, will spend in 2011 about $ 24 million to buy green certificates, according to a statement the amount being eight times higher than last year. This year the company intends to sell 55,000 tons of processed aluminum, with 24% more than last year and to increase its aluminum production for aero nautical industry at 4,000 tons, compared with 2,500 tons in 2010.
ALRO has recently started a project with a value of € 8.3 million, financed with European funds, which will lead to increasing the productivity in the segment of processed aluminum with 50% and will add sales of $ 30 million annually, at least.
The evolution of economic activity
According to the opinions expressed in April 2011 by the managers of trade companies from Romania, a moderate increase in manufacturing, retail, constructions sector and services are expected for period April - June 2011, in comparison with the previous three months, informs NIS.
