China’s stainless mills suggest price floors for traders

China’s major stainless steel producers have introduced guidance price floors below which they hope their traders will not sell this material, in hopes of stabilizing market prices. Zhangjiagang Pohang Stainless Steel has set the minimum guidance sale price for cold rolled coil at 18,000 Yuan (2,635USD)/tone, while Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel has set the level at 17,700 Yuan/tone, according to both mills. “Although market demand has yet to substantially improve, it is best to stabilize market expectations (through this policy),” said a Zhanjiagang Pohang official. However, he warned” “It is after all just a guidance price, and the actual sale prices should be decided by traders”. (Metal Bulletin)
