Romania - steel consumption decreasing by 43% in 2009

In 2009, the apparent steel consumption in Romania will decrease by 43.2%, to 2.72 mil.t., and will increase by 4.4% to 2.84 mil.t. next year, estimates the World Steel Association.
At the EU level, following the severe impact of the crisis on the EU economies, the apparent consumption will fall by 32.6% in 2009, to 122.26 mil.t. In 2010, the demand for steel within the EU is expected to increase by 12.4% to 137.4 mil.t.
The world market will contract by 8.6% in 2009, to 1.103 mld.t., the negative trend being tempered by the strong demand for steel in China. In 2010, the global consumption will increase by 9.2%, following the recovery of demand for steel products in the U.S., Europe and Japan, according to World Steel Association.
